Tip 1: Ask your Realtor if your contract has an Escalation Clause before signing. An Escalation Clause protects the builder from the rising costs of building materials and passes that onto the customer if prices go up. That means, the original price you signed for initially can possibly change. There are builder’s who do not carry this clause in their contracts who have fantastic reputations and I know them all.
Tip 2: Don’t let the incentives for using the builder’s lender fool you. You are not obligated to go with their lender, you have the ability and should shop around for your loan to get the best terms and incentives. Would you buy a new car and use the dealership's financing? Why would purchasing a home be any different?
